The Covenant of Rancho Santa Fe is kept safe and secure thanks to supplemental law enforcement services provided by the Rancho Santa Fe Patrol. The armed private security force protects the community 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The RSF Patrol was first established by the Rancho Santa Fe Association in 1976, The patrol is not affiliated with other security or alarm companies, and patrol officers are employees of the Rancho Santa Fe Association.
RSF Patrol officers have extensive and impressive backgrounds in law enforcement. Their mission is to serve Covenant residents by assisting the San Diego County Sheriff and California Highway Patrol (CHP) and to provide specialized services to Covenant residents.
In addition to emergency response, the patrol offers vacation and security check services. Vacation checks may be scheduled by completing a Vacation Check Form. Security checks may be requested by calling dispatch at (858) 756-4372.
The RSF Patrol is radio dispatched and communicates directly with the Sheriff and with Rancho Santa Fe Fire, resulting in faster response times for Covenant residents. The RSF Patrolís marked vehicles serve as a visible deterrent to crime. Using the patrol office as a field office, the sheriff and CHP can increase their visibility in the community and reduce travel time from their respective headquarters.
Patrol offices are co-located with RSF Fire Station #1 and North County Dispatch Joint Powers Agency in the administrative office section of the fire station at 16936 El Fuego.
The Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District provides fire prevention and suppression services for the Covenant of Rancho Santa Fe and its adjacent communities. The Fire District is a full-time fire protection agency and provides advanced life support and paramedic services for residents in their district.
Additional back-up response is available for major events through auto-aid and mutual-aid agreements with nearby cities and fire protection districts.
Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District was formed in October 1946 by an order of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors. It was an all-volunteer agency with one chief and 15 fire suppression positions. Today, the Fire District is comprised of a Chief, four battalion chiefs, 39 fire suppression experts (including firefighters, paramedics, engineers and captains), four fire-prevention specialists and three administrative positions -- all of whom operate out of four full-time fire stations with a separate administrative headquarters. Station 1 is located at 16936 El Fuego in the center of the Covenant and two blocks from the Village.

The Fire District is governed by a five-person board of directors, who are elected to four-year terms and reside within the district.
