Alert: Bacteria Bloom Present in Arroyo Pond

Visitors to Arroyo Preserve should not touch the pond water nor let dogs, horses or other animals near it. Parks and Recreation staff discovered the presence of a cyanobacteria species in pond scum on top of the water early last week. The California Regional Water Quality Control Board came to collect samples, testing for species identification and cyanotoxins. Results are pending, however they confirmed cyanobacteria is visually present. The bacteria is harmful to humans and animals, and the Arroyo pond is closed for recreational use until further notice.
